Airbus Delivers 793 Aircraft in 2025, Beats Revised Target Amid Challenges

Airbus achieved a strong close to 2025, delivering 793 commercial aircraft to 91 customers worldwide—surpassing its revised target of around 790 despite persistent supply chain challenges and quality-related setbacks.

This total represents a solid 4% increase from the 766 aircraft handed over in 2024, reinforcing Airbus’s position as the leading commercial aircraft manufacturer for the year. In contrast, rival Boeing is projected to have delivered significantly fewer jets (around 537 through November 2025, with full-year figures expected to remain well below Airbus’s tally).

The company originally targeted 820 deliveries for the year but adjusted expectations downward to approximately 790 in late 2025 following the discovery of quality issues on A320-family fuselage panels from a supplier. A robust final month—delivering a near-record 136 aircraft in December—enabled Airbus to exceed the lowered goal and demonstrate operational resilience.

Outgoing Commercial Aircraft CEO Christian Scherer emphasized that the revision stemmed from deliberate choices prioritizing safety and quality over aggressive timelines, rather than solely engine constraints. He noted, however, that ongoing issues with Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan engines on the A320neo family will extend into 2026, continuing to influence production pacing.

Demand for widebody aircraft remained particularly resilient, with the A330neo performing strongly and contributing to a record year-end backlog of 8,754 aircraft overall (including 1,124 widebodies—also a new high). This backlog underscores sustained market appetite across Airbus’s portfolio, from the A220 and A320 families to the A330neo and A350.

Looking ahead, Airbus plans to prioritize production ramp-up in 2026, targeting higher monthly output rates across key programs to capitalize on the robust order book and gradually ease supply chain bottlenecks.

In a year marked by industrial headwinds, Airbus’s performance highlights its ability to balance quality discipline with delivery momentum—maintaining upward trajectory in a complex global environment. Full financial results, including deeper insights into margins and cash flow, are scheduled for release on February 19, 2026.
